what Bhavana wants you to feel
when Bhavana was four years old, her dad put her in Kuchipudi class.
"turned out to be the best decision he ever made."
what stayed with her wasn't just the form itself. it was the way she learned it — in a Gurukulam-style classroom where younger dancers learned by watching older ones, where nobody was siloed, and where dance became more than technique. it became a way of seeing.
she's now been training in Kuchipudi for over 20 years, has completed her master's in the form, and has spent the last few years in New York learning from artists across genres, backgrounds, and movement languages. and that mix — deep classical grounding with a real openness to contemporary expression — is exactly what makes her work feel so alive.
"dance isn't monolithic," she says. "there's not one right way to do things. it's what feels right for you."
that line really stayed with us.
because that's also what we hope ar•ram•bam can be: a space where culture is carried forward, but not frozen. where people can come in through different doors, bring different histories, speak different languages, and still find something shared.
Bhavana grew up in a Telugu-speaking family, and one of the things she talks about beautifully is what it has meant to teach with ar•ram•bam and connect with the Tamil community through song, language, and shared South Indian values.
"it's wonderful to connect with people who speak different languages, but maybe share the same values and sentiments."
that feeling runs through the way she teaches too.
for Bhavana, a workshop isn't just about memorizing choreography. it's about understanding how movement should feel in your body, learning the intention behind it, and then making it your own. she wants people to leave not just with steps, but with curiosity, confidence, and a sense that they can keep growing.
"everyone is eternally a student, especially when it comes to art. there really is no ceiling. you can keep growing and evolving and learning from other people."
and that's a big part of why we're excited for this tour.
this April, Bhavana is bringing her Semi-Classical dance workshops across the US — and she's especially excited because dance isn't just happening in New York or LA. it's everywhere. people everywhere want to move, share energy, and build community through dance.
"to be able to go to other places, connect with other people, learn about their backgrounds, their movement styles is such a blessing."

if you've ever been curious about Semi-Classical movement, if you've wanted a workshop that feels expressive instead of intimidating, or if you just want two hours to block out the noise of the world and dance — this is for you.
"it isn't meant to be a stressful environment," Bhavana says. "it's meant more for you to just be exposed to maybe another way of thinking about dance."
